President Joe Biden is among the fiercest opponents of Georgia’s new election laws and has used deceptive rhetoric and inflammatory hyperbole to promote false narratives about the reforms.
While Biden has been repeatedly fact-checked by multiple outlets on his fraudulent claims, he has persisted in using racially charged language to push debunked lies about voting in Georgia, The Washington Times reported.
One of the primary tracks of Biden’s critiques is that the laws are created to suppress the votes of minorities. On numerous occasions, he has even compared the election reforms to the despicable racist “Jim Crow” laws imposed by segregationist Democrats in the Old South.
Biden harps on debunked “Jim Crow” claims
It was Biden’s absurd invocation of Jim Crow racism, among other unfounded claims, that prompted Major League Baseball to withdraw its All-Star Game and player draft from Atlanta. Talk is now growing on the left of an effort to pressure the Professional Golfer’s Association to withdraw its famed Masters Tournament from Augusta, Georgia, as well.
At the White House on Tuesday, Biden was asked whether the Masters should also be moved from the state. While he didn’t explicitly support the idea, he returned to the racially divisive well to invoke Jim Crow in opposition to Georgia, or any other state that reforms election laws in ways Democrats don’t like.
“I think that’s up to the Masters,” Biden replied. “Look, you know, it is reassuring to see that for-profit operations and businesses are speaking up about how these new Jim Crow laws are just antithetical to who we are.”
“There’s another side to it, too,” he continued. “The other side to it too is: When they, in fact, move out of Georgia, the people who need the help the most — people who are making hourly wages — sometimes get hurt the most.”
“I think it’s a very tough decision for a corporation to make or a group to make, but I respect it when they make that judgment, and I support whatever judgment they make,” Biden added. “But it’s — the best way to deal with this is for Georgia and other states to smarten up. Stop it. Stop it. It’s about getting people to vote.”
Psaki dodges, repeats lies
The Times noted that Biden’s acknowledgment that some people would get “hurt” by the corporate boycotts of Georgia was likely in reference to reports that Cobb County, which would have hosted the MLB All-Star Game, stands to lose an estimated $100 million in anticipated revenue, much of which would have flowed into the pockets of minority-owned small businesses.
During Tuesday’s press briefing, White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked whether Biden had any “regret” about expressing support for a boycott that will economically harm minority Georgians. She too doubled down on fact-checked false narratives, particularly that the new laws make it more difficult for eligible voters to cast a ballot when, in reality, the measure as a whole expands voting access.
Fox News, citing multiple fact-checks of Biden’s false claims, excoriated the administration for continuing to perpetuate “incredibly disingenuous” talking points and false narratives, especially in regard to Biden’s ludicrous assertion that Georgia’s laws — which are equivalent to or better than many Democratic-led states — are akin to “Jim Crow on steroids.”
Biden is a divisively dishonest partisan — as are those with whom he has surrounded himself — with no qualms against saying outrageous and provably false statements in order to further his party’s agenda. While some of his media allies are happy to allow such deception, the American people see right through it.
