‘America is back:’ Biden assures G-7 leaders that Trump’s ‘America First’ era is over

President Joe Biden addressed the G-7 Summit on Friday, indicating to the assembled nations that the “America First” policies put in place and championed by former President Donald Trump are over and that the country would be moving to a time of greater international cooperation.

Biden has already taken major steps to bring U.S. foreign policy back to its pre-Trump status since taking office by rejoining the World Health Organization, the Paris Climate Agreement, and taking steps to rejoin the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement.

“America is back, the trans-Atlantic alliance is back … we are not looking backward,” Biden said. “We have to prove that our model isn’t a relic of history. We must demonstrate that democracies can still deliver for our people in this changed world. That is our galvanizing mission. Democracy doesn’t happen by accident. We have to defend it. Strengthen it. Renew it.”

Biden joined the G-7 summit virtually. He didn’t mention Trump’s name but implied as much, saying “I know the past few years have strained and tested the transatlantic relationship,” adding that “the United States is determined to reengage with Europe, to consult with you, to earn back our position of trusted leadership.”

Pompeo doesn’t approve

Although Biden claimed he wasn’t looking backward in his foreign policy, it seems all he has done so far is reinstitute the policies of Trump’s predecessor, former President Barack Obama, under whom Biden served as vice president.

In contrast, Trump was willing to walk away from agreements that he saw as harmful to American interests, and in some cases, the interests of the world.

Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo came out strongly against Biden’s recent actions with Iran, warning him that a return to the 2015 Iran deal will not have the desired result.

“The ayatollah understands only strength. I led a response to the Iranian threat that protected the American people from its terror and supported the Jewish state of Israel,” Pompeo told the Washington Free Beacon on Thursday. “Adopting the European Union model of accommodation will guarantee Iran a path to a nuclear arsenal.”

“We refused”

Pompeo noted that European nations wanted to appease Iran for his entire tenure as secretary of state. “We refused,” the former secretary of state said.

In an earlier interview with Fox News, Pompeo said, “When the Iranians sense weakness, they’ll attack,” and added that he hopes Biden’s administration will not give up on a successful model of deterrence through strength with Iran.

Biden’s actions, so far, have not inspired confidence that he will model strength; he just seems to be weakening by the day by bringing America back to failed policies that seek to appease other world powers rather than direct and lead them.

Iran and China continue to be very real threats to U.S. sovereignty, but perhaps Biden and his leftist buddies have a different plan that is more about building global power instead of continuing to be the sovereign American republic we have successfully been for nearly the past 250 years.
